The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 7分。基于历史拐点的创作，实际上属于架空历史的剧作。从电影语言角度审视可圈可点，原著作者和导演大概希望对张伯伦这位颇具争议的历史人物做一种重新认识和评估。

片子本身的素质不错，挺加分的，铁叔还是稳
24日晚上就打开了播放器，断断续续，直到今晚才看完这部电影。
看来Historical fiction就完完全全是我的菜。就喜欢这种虚实交替的感觉，虽然已经知道了结局，但仍然能被人物所揪心。还有那种历史大潮面前个人的无力感。唉，我又想把Fall of Giants再翻出来读一遍了
来看铁叔演张伯伦，节奏把握还行，有兴趣拜读原作。
出乎意料的紧张刺激，也从侧面提现了张伯伦的性格和理念
希特勒是个魔鬼，但是所谓的聪明政客团体依旧无能为力，苟延残喘般说为战争争取了时间，却没有想过更有效阻止战争！没有一片雪花是清白的。
哈哈，《帝国的毁灭》里的戈培尔在这部电影里面演希特勒，他演谁谁都不像，脸不像元首就算了，可是身形松散得也不像是经历过一战的德国下士啊？选角真是疯了，还是怀念甘茨演得希特勒。不过这电影拍的真的不错，虚实结合得有张有弛，英国佬拍二战电影的确要比美国人进步一些，突破了《至暗时刻》里把张伯伦黑得一无是处的那种白左式的政治正确观念，终于给张伯伦一心为劳苦英国百姓要和平正名了，也没有落入为他洗地之嫌，总之，政治都是让位于现实的，理念现行的强人政治，最终结局必走向纳粹的下场。张伯伦在飞机上说，媾和条约终有一天会被撕毁，那才能让全世界看清希特勒的真实面目，那时候就是同盟国一起战斗了，牺牲自己的名誉只是小小的代价罢了。
有几幕台词和画面的对应非常精巧，保罗和休的台词被休和妻子重现，但此刻休已经变成了“保罗”。凌晨街头汽车里关于谈判还是暴力的争吵其实象征着谈和还是战争吧，连阵营如出一辙。但我们去看的时候会知道谈判和暴力已经不再是他们能做的选择了，历史已经形成了，另一种行动必然会失败…
翻案张伯伦，希特勒找的演员莫不是之前演喜剧的那个？
政治是丑陋的，程序是必须的。很难说英国的文化和官僚体制是完全无效的，即是无捷径，不走极端。
一个有信念的人能把自身的安危不顾而铤而走险，好感动。想阻止希特勒的战争，一个人的力量是何其的渺小，但是还要试一试，甚至要去刺杀希特勒。
有关张伯伦是不是洗白之类的，害，都找铁叔来演了还不说明问题吗？就像希特勒的形象被刻画为矮小的疯子，说明影片制作方想要表现出希特勒形象就是如此昂。
明明是已经发生的历史，为何在观影时依然感受到那份惊心动魄。是因为害怕主人公会舍身吗，我们既然知道他取了义的道路？是因为我们珍视并且汗颜吗，为他极富勇气且甚为罕有的信念？还是我们察觉到，这层境界，在如今更为稀薄，要觅得它，更为困难？
张伯伦就是个优柔寡断的老混蛋，德不配位害人害己，永世也洗不了白。
