The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 柯南伯格一直用“痛”延缓着人类欲望的消亡，《东方的承诺》中尼古拉裸身在浴室瓷砖地上不停地的摔打；《欲望号快车》中詹姆斯用身体“拥抱”着撞车的冲击与伤害；《变蝇人》中赛斯忍受身体分解成分子的极限痛楚。这一部《未来罪行》他想走得更远，然而他自己走了进去，却无论如何找不到出口。
