The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 这个故事框架能找到很多之前看过的动画片的影子，整体像是「驯龙高手」加「海洋奇缘」的低配版，前二十分钟还是比较精彩的，而当小女孩出现之后，剧情就变得越来越没意思了，太老套不说，还没看到一半就已经猜到了故事结局。整体故事有些拖沓了，90分钟能讲完非要拖到接近两小时，倒是最后的结尾有些仓促了，本想会有彩蛋，讲一下之后发生的故事，居然没有！感觉又缺了点什么。整体来说，算是网飞出品的动画作品里还可以的了。
老套路了，开头还怪的戏倒是不错，不过还是偏向儿童，好莱坞动画片永远这样，所以最终还是要传达真善美，HE结局，就像《训龙高手》差不多吧。

全片看的中配，比预期的要好啊～ 大人和孩子在其中都能找到快乐的一部电影。我比较喜欢小蓝～ 对统治阶级的讽刺注定会让一些人不顺眼，但是这更是加分项～ 小女孩黑皮也没什么不好，反正我是看怪兽的。来豆瓣看演职员表，居然发现有oi侠。。。
一个永恒的悲剧故事，比Toolstoy的〈战争与和平〉要简单，也比战争与和平的〈histoy〉要复杂。
第41分钟的深海恐惧，那一段真的被吓到灵魂出窍。

很好看，倒叙的手法，从阴郁到轻快，从今天到昨天，结尾的那段音乐，伴随着一张张画面，这就是生活啊，让我们变得越来越普通。
画面是真的牛逼！动画做到这份上，真不是几年努力几年追赶喊喊口号就能做出来的！但是这么牛逼的动画制作水平，怪兽却充满塑料感，闹着玩呢…同意网友的观点，跟夏日友情天类似，前三分之二都是不错的，结尾却匆匆了事，人物立场转变得太快太儿戏，真就是闹着玩一样，说变就变了，也没个铺垫。想讨论战争与和平，小屁孩嚷嚷几句，所有人就都信了？！说国王控制了舆论思想，为了发财，一句话就浅尝辄止了？！最忠诚的大副，说变就变了？！女巫这个角色又是个啥？咋呼两句完事了？！诶……虽说动画片，结尾别这么敷衍行不行，想给你封神，可这5星楞是给不下去，给你机会，你不中用啊！！！
中规中矩。另外这个故事明显带有现实的映射，比如女性将军，有色人群的正面角色。
